Individual Defensive Players in Fantasy Football?

Our league is thinking of using IDP's this year instead of Team Defenses. Anyone have experience with this? What advice can you give? What scoring do you use for IDP? We were thinking of going with 6 IDP (2DL, 2CB & 2Flex).

Our main concern is keeping the scoring balanced bet. O & D.

We are planning on scoring as follows:

Tackle Solo (1 pt)

Tackle Assist (.5pt)

Sack (1pt)

Interception (2pt)

Fumble Force (1pt)

Fumble Recovery (2pt)

Touchdown (6pt)

Safety (2pt)

Pass Defended (1pt)

Block Kick (2pt)

Offense is scored in our league as follows:

Passing Yards(20 yards per pt. BONUS 1 pt at

300yards; 3 pt at 350 yards; 5 pt at 400 yards)

Passing TD (6)

Int (-2)

Rushing Yards (10 yards per point; BONUS 1 pt at 100 yards; 3 pt at 150 yards; 5 pt at 200 yards)

Rushing TD(6)

Reception Yards (10 yards per pt; BONUS 1 pt at 100 yards; 3 pt at 150 yards; 5 pt at 200 yards

Rec TD (6)

Return TD (6)

2pt Conv. (2)

Fumbles Lost (-2)

Off Fumble Return TD (6)

FG (3)

  1. It makes it kinda of boring. I wouldn't recommend it. You hardly get any points and defensive players stats change dramatically from week to week. Stick with team defenses (maybe even add a second team defense to your scoring system)

  2. I LOVE IDP's...you don't find many leagues that run them, but I think its a fantastic idea.  Middle linebackers are your MONEY guys when it comes to IDP's.  You want guys who rack up the tackles!  If you miss out on the top guys for tackles then go with good but NOT great cornerbacks.  Sure everyone knows Champ Bailey is a shut down corner with tremendous skills, and thats the problem.  If you pick him he wont get many points for passes defended because opposing QB's know how good he is and they gameplan to throw more toward the opposite side of the field.  I think IDP's are more interesting and ultimately more fun.  I just think there's too big of a difference between the top defensive teams and the middle to lower defensive teams.  IDP's allow things to be more even and more competitive.

  3. I don't have a lot of experience, but my 2 cents worth are, whatever pick you have to take him with you must get Patrick Willis from SF, he is an absolute beast!!!
