I have a pre-existing condition that is making it difficult to obtain an individual health plan. I live in Ohio. My doctor has written a letter stating that I have no symptoms, have never been hospitalized, etc. has anyone ever experienced this before and will that letter be helpful?

  1. Unfortunately you are like many other Americans that cannot get health insurance because of pre-existing conditions.  There are other alternatives that can help you save on your medical expenses in the mean time.  Ameriplan USA is a Discount Medical Benefits Company  With their benefit programs you can save money on medical, dental, prescription, vision and more.  Maybe this can help you out in the mean time until you are able to obtain insurance coverage.   If you would like to know more you can contact me or visit www.SaveonMedicalandDental.com.

  2. Best to go to an independant agent. They will be able to tell you how far back the underwriting will require your medical records. Usually, it's 5-10 years. If you have not been treated in that time frame and your records reflect that, you should be fine. It is doubtful that a letter from your doctor would be very helpful.

  3. My husband had high blood pressure which is now under control. When we were quoted health insurance, contingent on a physical, we were very impressed. However, they came back with a 80% rate increase because of the previous condition of high blood. We declined that offer and are looking elsewhere. Try ehealthinsurance.com
