Indo-Pak Express, Bopanna/ Qureshi, qualify for 2011 Barclays ATP World Tour Finals – Tennis News
Subcontinent duo, Rohan Bopanna from India and Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi from Pakistan, have qualified for the season-end finale, Barclays ATP World Tour Finals. The tournament will be contested in the most elite tennis arenas, O2 London
Arena, from November 20-27.
They are the seventh team to qualify for the tournament and there qualification leaves three teams in the hunt for the final spot. The three teams that will battle it out in this week’s BNP Paribas Masters in Paris tournament to
place the berth in the year-end finale are the teams of Eric Butorac and Jean-Julien Rojer, Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski, Marcelo Melo and Bruno Soares.
The ‘Indo-Pak Express’ has never qualified for this tournament before and this will be their first appearance in Barclays ATP World Tour Finals. They were lucky to take part in the last year tournament having made their way into
O2 Arena as alternatives.
Subcontinent tennis ace duo won this year Stockholm tournament having started the tournament as top seed. They won the final in straight sets 6-1, 6-3 against the Brazilians Marcelo Melo and Bruno Soares. They added crucial 250
points to their ATP Rankings tally and enlightened their chances to qualify for the year-end finale.
They have won two titles this year which includes their victory at grass at the Gerry Weber Open in Halle in June. Bopanna, while talking to the media representatives, said "It feels great to have won our second title of the year
and this is the best way to keep ourselves in contention for a berth in London."
Indo-Pak Express was very disappointing in Valencia Open 500 as they started the tournaments as fourth seed but were forced out of the tournament in straight sets by the Stockholm runners up duo of Marcelo Melo and Bruno Soares.
The rivalry between the two teams is heating up and Brazilian duo has enhanced their chances to qualify for season-end finale by reaching the semi-finals of Valencia Open 500 and might face their arch rivals once again for the third time in same year. Bopanna-Qureshi’s
qualification for the quarter-finals in Valencia 500 confirmed their place in the season-end finale, Barclays ATP World Tour Finals tournament.
