Indo-Pak greats hail the revival of cricketing ties between the two nations – Cricket News Update
Pakistan and India cricketing relations are all-set for a long-awaited revival after five years, which hit a standstill in the aftermath of the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 terror attacks in 2008.
In a major development that could help thaw relations between the two neighbouring countries, the Indian Board in its working committee meeting has decided to invite Pakistan for a short series by the end of this year.
The legendary Indo-Pak duo, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bishan-Singh-Bedi-c48133 called it a welcoming step and believe the two nations need to bridge their distances, and cricket is one way to do that.
Former Pakistan captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 in 1979, was pleased with the news and said that it will improve the over-all Indo-Pak relations.
“The best remedy is to play. At least the country will be busy watching cricket. It will be good for cricket and Indo-Pak relationship. Both the countries should be playing cricket every year. It is a very good sign,” said Abbas.
“People in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 are very happy. India are becoming a great power in cricket. Playing with India we can improve our cricket also,” he said.
Another former Indian captain and bowling great, Bedi, called the Indian Board’s decision as a step in the right direction.
“It will be interesting Pakistan is playing their home series in India. It will mean a lot in the two nations. And the amount of interest and the goodwill it will generate will be huge,” Bedi said.
The relations between the two countries improved in the back-drop of the secretary level meetings between the two countries which led to an invitation by the Indian Prime Minister to his Pakistani counterpart during the Indo-Pak World Cup semi-final match
last year.
In another major step last month, Indian Board had invited the Pakistan domestic T20 champions http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 from October 9.
Bedi said that he would prefer to see the two countries play against each other rather than watching the Stallions in the CL T20.
Last week, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Chaudhry Zaka http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ashraf-c46397 had put forward three proposals for the Indian Board to play Pakistan, and had already requested to hire two Indian stadiums for that purpose.
