Indonesia Badminton Federation announces Badminton team for the Sudirman Cup: Badminton News
The Badminton Federation of Indonesia (PBSI) has announced the names of the shuttlers for the upcoming event of Sudirman Cup, which will start from May 22, at Qingdao, China. This is the biggest mixed team event in the world of Badminton.
Indonesia is focusing on younger shuttlers this time as many upcoming players along with the experienced shuttlers are included in the squad for this event. However, there is something alarming for Indonesia in Men’s Doubles as the top Indonesian pair of
Markis Kido and Hendra Setiawan are injured.
Sony Dwi Kuncoro, the Men’s Singles elite shuttler of Indonesia, is also suffering with a back injury and will miss the Sudirman Cup. In the Men’s Singles category, Taufik Hidayat, who is the former World and Olympic Champion, will raise Indonesia’s flag
in the championship. Along with Taufik will be Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka and Simon Santoso in Men’s Singles.
In Men’s Doubles, Alvent Yulianto Chandra, Hendra Aprida Gunawan, Mohammad Ahsan and Bona Septano will compete against the top pairs of China, Korea and Malaysia. In the absence of Markis and Hendrawan, the other players in doubles category have to perform
well for the victory of Indonesia.
In the Women’s Singles, Lindaweni Fanetri and Adriyanti Firdasari will be fighting in China in the prestigious mixed team event. Both ladies are capable of beating top shuttlers of the world on a given day.
In the Women’s Doubles, Anneke Feinya Augustine, Nitya Krishinda Maheswari, Meiliana Jauhari and Greysia Polii are included in the squad for the championship. China and Korea will be the major opponents for the females of Indonesia in the doubles match.
In the mixed doubles category, Indonesia is sending Lilyana Natsir, Tantowi Ahmad, Fran Kurniawan, Pia Zebadiah, Bernadet and Debby Susanto. The most experienced couple in this line will be Tantovi and Lilyana.
Indonesia’s squad is quite challenging as it is a blend of experienced and young shuttlers. In the championship, the major opponents of Indonesia will be China, Malaysia and Korea.
Japan is also making its presence felt as many Japanese shuttlers have performed well in the recent events including India Open Super Series and Malaysia Open Grand Prix Gold.
