Indonesia Open 2012: Desi Hera tames Aiying Xing to occupy seat in Women’s Singles main draw
The spirited local shuttler Desi Hera stamped Aiying Xing in qualifying round of Djarum Indonesia Open and secured the honour to be in main round on June 12, 2012 in Jakarta.
This hard fought 53-minute battle held in Istora Senayan Stadium and both contenders remained head to head all the way to three sets before giving concluding scores of 15-21, 21-10 and 14-21.
Desi Hera, who was underdog earlier in this home event, played with great precision and stunned relatively higher ranked opponent in opening and closing segment of the show.
On the other hand, the Singaporean lady was not in prime touch as her magic only prevailed in the middle section of contest.
The first set of match started with Aiying Xing pushing her opponent on back foot with three power packed rallies but Desi Hera counterbalanced the situation by grabbing six consecutive points.
She magnified the impact by reaching at 9-5 in no time but the opposing shuttler levelled the score with a strong reply.
At mid-game break, both opponents were standing at 11-10 but Desi made difference with 15-11 by playing fast badminton.
This time she did not frittered away her effort and bagged first set with a significant margin of 21-15.
However, this first set loss did not harm Aiying Xing as she completely outclassed her challenger in next segment of the show.
World Number 49 shuttler set the ball rolling by establishing three-point lead in start and then doubled this advantage with 11-5 until half time.
After the interval, she kept dictating Desi and strengthened her grip over game by reaching at dominating position of 15-9.
The Singaporean lady clinched six out of last seven points and won second set with distinctive figure of 21-10.
This nerve-racking situation turned third set consequential as both contenders were now standing just one step away either from main round entry or a woeful exit.
They stayed close to each other until one-minute break but the Indonesian shuttler controlled overall pace of the game in later part.
