Indonesia Open 2012: Gurusaidutt trounces Yuhan Tan in Men’s Singles qualifying round
India’s spirited shuttler R. M. V. Gurusaidutt cleared first hurdle in Men’s Singles qualifying round of Djarum Indonesia Open by toppling Yuhan Tan on June 12, 2012.
This epic battle was staged in Istora Senayan Stadium of Jakarta and both contenders sweat hard for 51 minutes to read final results of 21-19, 8-21 and 16-21.
The Indian lad will now lock horns with higher ranked Dutch shuttler Eric Pang to win a spot in main draw of the event.
In his opening match, Gurusaidutt looked bit off colour in the beginning but he came back from horrendous start and bagged last two sets of contest.
Meanwhile, Yuhan Tan performed conversely as he gained an immediate advantage but then frittered away a golden chance of stealing the limelight.
The Belgian campaigner displayed amazing skills in first set as he pocketed a vital match point despite of staying low in most part of the game.
First half of the set was completely dominated by Gurusaidutt who got into commanding position with a significant total of 8 and then made best out of this advantage with 11-7 before until half time.
Though, Yuhan Tan prevailed in couple of nonstop rallies but still he kept trailing behind his rival until 19-19.
At this critical stage, he switched on the best in him and finished this race by registering favourable margin of 21-19.
However, he could not carry this momentum in following game as his competitor put his expedition to halt by placing a mountainous total in second set.
World Number 52 shuttler Gurusaidutt showed a transformed character this time and played with great precision.
This time he did not give any counter attack opportunity to the opposing shuttler as he ended first half with a respectable lead in 11-5 and then magnified the impact by gathering valuable points at top speed.
He levelled match score by clinching second set with a notable figure of 21-8.
The 22-year-old Indian campaigner did not lose his pace in the decider also and enjoyed an upper hand from very first to the concluding moment. Gurusaidutt cruised to victory after entering 21-16 margin in the score log.
