Indonesia Open 2012: Joachim Fischer, Christinna Pedersen pave path to second round
Mixed Doubles experts Joachim Fischer Nielsen and Christinna Pedersen of Denmark surpassed Shoji Sato-Shizuka Matsuo in first round and trod into second round of the Djarum Indonesia Open on June 13, 2012.
Both contenders made this contest memorable by confronting each other for 58 minutes before leaving the court with 18-21, 21-12 and 21-14.
Now the surviving duo will face the Indonesian pair Fran Kurniawan-Shendy Puspa Irawati in pre quarter-final round of the tournament.
World Number four partnership Joachim Fischer-Christinna Pedersen was at its best when they sealed a splendid 2-1 victory in their opening match.
The Danish couple made great comeback after losing first segment of contest and proved themselves one of the best at beating shuttlecock.
In first set, the Japanese shuttlers completely dominated all areas of game and cornered their higher ranked challengers.
The twosome of Shoji Sato and Shizuka Matsuo showed perfect coordination as they were everywhere in court before registering a respectable margin of 11-7 until the interval.
After one-minute break, they swiftly raised their total to 15-11. Their opponents accelerated pace but could not catch them until final result of 21-18 in first set.
However, story was entirely different in second set of the match as Joachim Fischer and Christinna Pedersen found their lost rhythm and outclassed their competitors.
They opened marathon in perfect manner and dominated five uninterrupted rallies. They did not reduce speed and continued stepping forward until 11-4 before mid-game break.
This burden of seven-point deficit proved too heavy for the Japanese campaigner and they remained at the lower end in remaining part of the game.
The Danish team raised their lead with 17-7 total and then make best out of this advantage by placing concluding margin of 21-12.
This revised status in match score position made third set consequential but the decider remained interesting just until half time.
Both teams did not allow each other to gain a comfortable lead and stayed equal until 12-12 but then Joachim Fischer and Christinna Pedersen switched on the best in them.
They gathered nine out of last eleven points and wrapped the show with a significant figure of 21-14.
