Indonesia Open 2013: Lee Chong Wei eases into Men’s Singles semi-final – Badminton news
Malaysia’s World Number One player, Lee Chong Wei, eased into Men’s Singles semi-final after winning quarter-final clash against Thailand’s Boonsak Ponsana at Djarum Indonesia Open 2013 on Friday, June 14, in Indonesia.
The top seeded Chong Wei, who has been showing his incredible consistency for the last five years, played with his usual impress speed and easily trounced the Ponsana who was eighth seed in the tournament.
Malaysian shuttler was quite smooth in his movement on court. He did not face any trouble in getting the bird early from all corners and easily showed exit to Ponsana in straight games by a stunning total of 21-10 and 21-7.
Meanwhile, the lower ranked Ponsana failed to take any advantage from his experience as his rival was flawless in the arena. He could not get rid of the aggression of Chong Wei and eventually lost the match in a lopsided manner in just 28 minutes.
Chong Wei, who found a quivering start in this championship, finally put things on right track by getting a food flow. He gradually found his form back and won the quarter-final clash without putting in extra effort.
Starting set was shocking for the experienced Thai shuttler who failed to dominate the pace of rallies and committed unforced errors.
On the contrary, Chong Wei was quick and smooth in his performance and he did not commit unforced mistakes. His positive play enabled him to grab a smashing lead until the break.
After the mid-game interval, the Malaysian did not show any mercy. He showed urgency in finishing off rallies and easily bagged the first game with a one-sided margin of 21-10.
In the second set, Chong Wei was again on driving seat as he played with staggering speed. His jumping smashes landed in directed areas and he again set up a huge lead until the one-minute break.
In the concluding points of second game, Chong Wei injected more variations into his strokes making his opponent work hard to return the bird. He progressed smoothly and wrapped up the set with a spectacular 21-7 score on the board.
