Indonesia Open: Andre Kurniawan Tedjono ousts Sai Praneeth B. in Men’s Singles qualifying round
Indonesia’s Andre Kurniawan Tedjono delivered a wonderful performance when he toppled India’s Sai Praneeth B. in Men’s Singles qualifying round at Indonesia Open Premier Super Series 2012 in Jakarta, on Tuesday, June 12.
Kurniawan, who has been struggling hard to prove his worth at international stage, showed his class in his opening battle in the tournament and ousted his opponent in a sensational fashion.
The in-form Kurniawan played to his maximum potential and finished off the fight in straight games with a comprehensive margin and ousted his Indian rival in 42 minutes.
On the other hand, Praneeth failed to show his class as he could not find chance to dominate the pace of rallies at any stage and easily bowed to his local rival without taking any game.
In the opening set, both men started their run in a composed manner as they played aggressive but safe strokes and also remained close until 3-3 when the Indian started to gear up the pace of rallies and managed a reasonable lead.
Praneeth continued putting up superb show against Kurniawan without showing any respect to him and established a sensational lead of 11-6 on the score board until the mid-game interval.
After the break, Kurniawan changed his strategy at net and started to play with deception which kept his rival away from net.
The changed tactics of Kurniawan worked in his favour and he ended up the superiority of his Indian rival in the court by making the score levelled at 12-12.
Both men again remained close but it was Kurniawan who played with precision in the ending points and took the game with a tight score of 21-19.
In the second game, Praneeth again showed his spirit as he played to his maximum potential and set up a tremendous lead of 7-2.
However, the Indian again failed to maintain the gap as Kurniawan increased his speed and levelled the score by reaching 8-8.
They progressed equally until 14-14 when Kurniawan stunned his Indian rival as he took seven points in a row and ended up the set with a 21-14 score on the board.
The in-form Kurniawan won this qualifying round contest easily in 42 minutes with a margin of 21-19 and 21-14.
