Indonesia Open: Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka beats Ajay Jayaram in Men’s Singles round-of 16
Indonesia’s young player Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka made his home fans happy as he surged into Men’s Singles quarter-final after beating India’s Ajay Jayaram in round-of-16 fight at the 2012 Indonesia Open Premier Super Series in Jakarta, on Thursday, June
14.
The in-form Rumbaka, who has been placed at number 21 in Men’s Singles world rankings, showed his hard-to-learn skills in the court and defeated the World Number 23 Jayaram in an inspiring fashion.
The higher ranked Rumbaka was impressive in his approach as he played dominating badminton throughout the clash and easily stamped his mark over his India opponent by ending the fight in straight games with a comprehensive difference on the board.
On the other hand, the Indian could not cope up with the positive and elevated play of his local opponent in the court and lost the match in straight sets in just 36 minutes.
Right from the opening rallies of first game, Rumbaka showed his confidence as he played with precision.
The Indian also showed his brilliance in opening rallies but failed to dictate the pace of the game as his Indonesian opponent remained consistent and started to dominate the pace.
Until the one-minute break, it was Rumbaka who showed his class and managed a reasonable lead on the score board.
After the break, Rumbaka continued his positive run in the court without facing any problem of his lower ranked Indian opponent and won the opening set with a superb 21-15 score on the board.
In the following set, Rumbaka maintained his supremacy from opening points by playing positive and aggressive badminton. His defence was impressive as he did not let his rival to earn points from smashes.
The Indonesian shuttler was leading the game with an 11-7 margin until the one-minute break.
After the 60-second interval, Rumbaka remained positive and also played smart badminton by putting variations in his shots. He was in complete control of rallies and eventually bagged the set with a huge margin of 21-14.
The in-form Rumbaka won this 36-minute Men’s Singles pre-quarter-final clash in straight sets with a sensational 21-15 and 21-14 score on the board.
