Indonesia Open GP Gold: Huan Gao stuns Ji Hoon Hong in Men’s Singles round-of-16
China’s emerging player Huan Gao put up tremendous display of impressive badminton and cruised into Men’s Singles quarter final after defeating his higher ranked challenger Ji Hoon Hong of Korea in round-of-16 match at Indonesia Open GP Gold in Indonesia, on Thursday, September 27.
The impressive Huan, who is un-seeded shuttler in the main draw of the championship, played with control and precision and showed exit to Ji Hoon who was seeded at number 12 in Men’s Singles main draw.
Huan was at his best on court as he played with incredible speed and managed to overpower his rival by winding up the match in straight games in just 35 minutes with a spectacular margin on score board.
The 12th seeded Ji Hoon, in the meanwhile, could not lived up to expectations as he failed to even put up meagre resistance on court and easily went down against the young Chinese player in straight sets with a humiliating margin.
In the first set, Huan played attacking badminton from opening points of the game and did not spare any chance for his Korean rival to show strong resistance.
Until the one-minute break in first game, Huan was leading the game with a remarkable margin of 11-5.
After the break, the Chinese shuttler again remained in commanding position as he maintained his speed and aggression on court without letting his rival to find a good flow.
Huan was in impressive control of rallies and managed to win the opening game with a stunning 21-11 score on the board.
In the second set, Ji Hoon tried to give a good fight in opening points but he failed to control the pace of rallies and remained struggling far behind on score board until the break.
After the interval, Huan raced away towards the ending points of the set by playing to his maximum potential and took the game with a remarkable 21-12 score on the board.
The in-form Huan powered his way into the top-eight stage by finishing up the match in straight sets of 35 minutes with a crushing margin of 21-11 and 21-12.
