Indonesia Open Premier Super Series: Li Xuerui storms into Women’s Singles semi-final
China’s talented player Li Xuerui showed her impressive class as she stormed into Women’s Singles semi-final after ending the winning run of Germany’s Juliane Schenk in quarter-final match at the 2012 Indonesia Open Premier Super Series in Jakarta, on Friday,
June 15.
Xuerui, who is positioned at number three in the world and seeded at number four in the tournament, played to her best speed and overpowered her lower ranked German rival in a tight contest.
The higher ranked Xuerui took the first game with a decent margin but lost the second game with a huge difference. However, the Chinese fought back strongly and took the final set to stamp her supremacy over the World Number 7 Schenk.
The lower ranked German, on the other hand, put up superb show and also troubled her higher ranked Chinese rival but failed to live up to expectations in the deciding set and lost the battle in hard-fought rubber games with a decent margin on the board.
In the first game, Xuerui was in full control as she dictated Schenk everywhere in the court by commanding the rallies. Until the break, the Chinese was miles ahead as she constructed a wonderful gap.
After the break, Xuerui remained consistent and positive in the court and easily won the set with a margin of 21-16.
In the second set, it was Schenk who took over the control from her Chinese opponent and also played killing badminton throughout the opening half.
After the break, Xuerui changed her tactics to narrow the gap but failed to dictate the pace and lost the set with a 13-21 score on the board.
In the decider, Xuerui played at her best speed and took an impressive lead of 11-5 on the score board until the one-minute interval.
After the interval, the Chinese lady continued her roller-coaster show without showing any respect to her lower ranked opponent and eventually grabbed the final set with a remarkable margin of 21-16.
The higher ranked Xuerui won this Women’s Singles quarter-final battle in three games with an interesting 21-16, 13-21 and 21-16 margin on the score board.
