Indonesia Open Premier Super Series: Parupalli Kashyap stuns Chen Long in Men’s Singles round-of-16

India’s in-form spirited player Parupalli Kashyap displayed a staggering show of impressive badminton and created the biggest upset as he hammered the top seeded Chen Long of China in Men’s Singles reound-of-16 at Indonesia Open Premier Super Series 2012
on Thursday, June 14, in Indonesia.
The World Number 26 Kashyap, who is un-seed in the main draw of Indonesia Open, delivered a phenomenal performance and defeated the World Number 3 Long in an impressive fashion with a huge margin.
The lower ranked Kashyap was fully committed in the court and he played attacking badminton in the entire battle and eventually registered a spectacular victory over Long in straight games.
In contrast, the higher ranked Long who was the heavy favourite to win this battle got a shocking treatment from spirited Kashyap and lost the match without putting up even meagre resistance in the court.
Kashyap was impressive from the opening points of the first game and he did not let his top seeded opponent to set up an early lead.
Long, on the other hand, failed to dominate the pace as he could not destroy the defence of his India rival and remained struggling on the score board while trailing 8-11 until the one-minute break.
After the interval, Kashyap continued his composed and aggressive performance and did not miss any chance to stretch his lead on the score board.
The talented Indian was at his best and he easily grabbed the opening game against Long with a convincing margin of 21-17.
In the second game, Long played to his maximum speed in order to take an early lead but again failed to break the flow of Kashyap who was in full swing.
Until the one-minute break in the second game, Kashyap was leading on the score board with a small margin of 11-9.
However, the Indian showed his brilliance after the break when he played attacking badminton and stunned his rival by winning the second game with a remarkable score of 21-14.
The un-seeded Kashyap sent Long packing in the pre-quarter-final battle with a stunning 21-17 and 21-14 score on the board.
