Indonesia Open: R. M. V. Gurusaidutt topples Eric Pang to storm into Men’s Singles main round
India’s spirited player R. M. V. Gurusaidutt proved his mettle in the court and advanced into the Men’s Singles main round after taming his higher ranked challenger Eric Pang of Netherlands at the qualifying round battle in the Indonesia Open Premier Super
Series 2012 on Tuesday, June 12, in Jakarta.
The un-seeded Gurusaidutt showed his aggression and registered a comprehensive victory over Pang, who was fourth seeded shuttler in Men’s Singles qualifying round draw of the tournament.
The impressive Indian was on a completely different level while playing against his Dutch opponent and easily wrapped up a sensational win by ending up the match in straight games by taking just 28 minutes.
On the other hand, Pang could not live up to expectations as he failed to prove his worth against Gurusaidutt and bowed down to him without taking any game in this lopsided battle.
In the opening set, it was Pang who controlled the pace of rallies from the opening points and maintained his upper hand over his Indian opponent in the first half.
In the meanwhile, the in-form Gurusaidutt tried his best to take charge of rallies but failed to stop the attacking play of his opponent and remained trailing at 7-11 until the one-minute interval.
After the one-minute break, the lower ranked Indian changed his game plan and started to play flat shots. This strategy worked well and he started to control the pace of rallies.
The higher ranked Dutch shuttler was leading the game by reaching at 15-11 when Gurusaidutt stunned everyone by playing incredible badminton and took 10 straight points to snatch the opening set with a 21-15 score on the board.
In the following game, Gurusaidutt was everywhere in the court as he easily dictated the pace of rallies and managed an impressive 11-3 lead until the break.
After the interval, the Indian continued his phenomenal run in the match and he remained successful in taking the second game with an incredible 21-6 score on the board.
Gurusaidutt won this qualifying round battle in two sets with a completely one-sided score of 21-15 and 21-6.
