Indonesia Open: Simon Santoso ends gallant run of Parupalli Kashyap in Men’s Singles semi-final
Indonesia’s ace shuttler Simon Santoso keeps his hopes alive to win the title as he reserved his berth in Men’s Singles final after ending the gallant run of India’s Parupalli Kashyap in semi-final battle at Indonesia Open Premier Super Series 2012 at Jakarta,
Indonesia, on Saturday, June 16.
The higher ranked Santoso, who is currently World Number 9 in Men’s Singles world ranking, showed an impressive performance and easily overpowered the giant killer Kashyap who has been positioned at number 26 in the world.
Santoso, who is seventh seed in Indonesia Open, showed a gutsy performance as he played controlled and positive badminton for 45 minutes and ended the incredible winning run of Kashyap in straight games.
On the other hand, the lower ranked Kashyap could not do much against the power play of his local opponent and bowed down to him with a comfortable margin on the board.
The opening set of this Men’s Singles semi-final was thrilling when both men showed their aggression in the court and remained close until the one-minute interval.
The Indonesia was calm and collected while the India was playing attacking badminton in the opening half.
However, after the interval, Santoso showed his class while playing with precision and started to stretch his lead on the score board.
Kashyap, on the other hand, could not maintain his positive run in the court as he started making uncharacteristic error.
The higher ranked Santoso remained positive and collected in the court and took the first game with a comfortable score of 21-15.
In the second game, Kashyap started his campaign in an aggressive and positive manner and took an early lead.
However, the Indian again failed to continue his aggressive run as his higher ranked Indonesian rival started to take the bird early and played better badminton.
Until the one-minute interval, it was the seventh seeded Santoso who took a two-point lead of 11-9 on the score board.
After the break, the Santoso did not lose his focus and grabbed the set with a superb 21-12 score on the board.
The Indonesian won this semi-final battle in 45 minutes against Kashyap with a margin of 21-15 and 21-12.
In the final contest, Santoso will take on China’s Du Pengyu who defeated Hu Yun of Hong Kong in the other semi-final clash.
