Indonesia Open Super Series: Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka storms into Men’s Singles quarter-final
Indonesia’s impressive player Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka showed a wonderful improvement in his play as he stormed into Men’s Singles quarter-final after beating his higher ranked team-mate Tommy Sugiarto in the round-of-16 at Li Ning Singapore Open Super Series
2012 on Thursday, June 21, in Singapore.
The un-seeded Rumbaka, who is currently World Number 19 in the world, was in full swing in the court and easily toppled Sugiarto who has been positioned at number 17 in world ranking.
Rumbaka has been playing competitive badminton for the last one year and has attained a higher level of skills. He showed his class against Sugiarto and ousted him in straight games by playing flawless badminton.
On the other hand, the higher ranked Sugiarto could not get rid of his lower ranked team-mate in the whole match and lost to his in two games with a reasonable margin on the score board.
In the first game, Rumbaka showed his elevated skills in the court as he played aggressive badminton.
However, he failed to take advantage as his higher ranked opponent was also playing at the same speed. Until the break, it was Rumbaka who was leading the score board with an 11-10 margin.
After the break, both Indonesians continued their positive and aggressive play until the score reached at 19-19 when Rumbaka played smart shots in gaps and took the game with a 21-19 score on the board.
In the second game, Rumbaka played with variations and he did not let Sugiarto to settle down in the court. His impressive deception and accuracy disturbed the flow of his opponent.
The power play and right shot selection helped Rumbaka to take an incredible lead of 11-6 until the one-minute interval.
After the break, Rumbaka remained consistent in his positive play and he did not spare any chance for Sugiarto to catch up the difference at any stage.
The in-form Rumbaka was impressive in the second set and he ended it up with a decent score of 21-17.
The lower ranked Rumbaka won this Men’s Singles pre-quarter-final match in 41 minutes with a 21-19 and 21-17 score on the board.
