Indonesia beat Hong Kong, likely to surge into Uber Cup Finals
Indonesia befell victorious against Hong Kong in playoff round of Uber Cup preliminaries on Sunday and likely to have a confirm spot in Uber Cup finals, to be held in China from May 20-27.
According to The Badminton World Federation’s rules, to qualify for the Finals in Wuhan, the fifth top ranked team of Uber Cup preliminaries will have to surpass the team having fourth position in European Women’s Team Championships, by scoring more combined
world ranking points.
The Indonesia, who by losing to China in the quarter-final had to play the playoff round, ended the event by standing on the fifth position.
On the other side, the Holland thrashed Russia in a third position match of European Women’s Team Championships and put the Russia in a contest with Indonesia by clinching automatic berth in Uber Cup finals.
The Indonesia is at ease with the latest development and they have made their calculations. They are confident that Russia will not be able to stop them from being one of the Uber Cup finalists.
The secretary general of Badminton Association of Indonesia (PBSI) Yacob Rusdianto said, “We have 188,328 points, the Netherlands have 139,748 while Russia has 116,044. Whatever the result in Amsterdam, we will go to the finals.”
Yacob is satisfied with his shuttlers and hopes that in the coming three months the wind will blow in their favour and his shuttlers will sweat hard to avoid being bleeding chips.
He said, “The players have three months to improve before the finals. We are encouraged by stability in performance showed by our single shuttlers, especially [Adrianti] Firdasari and [Maria] Febe [Kusumastuti].”
The Indonesian shuttlers outclassed their competitors yesterday and Hong Kong’s girls had no answer to their attack.
The Indonesian shuttler Adrianti Firdasari registered the first match point and won against Hong Kong’s Hung Yung Chan with 21-17 and 21-15 score on the score card.
The Indonesia’s next singles player Maria Febe Kusumastuti kept the ball rolling and raise the lead to 2-0 by beating her rival Kwan Yi Mong.
The Indonesia confirmed it status as victorious when the duo Greysia Polii and Meiliana Jauhari outclassed Hong Kong’s doubles team Lok Yan Poon - Ying Suet Tse with convincing margin of 21-18 and 21-18.
In the last inconsequential singles game, Hong Kong’s Ngan Yi Cheung won a point for her country by edging Lindaweni Fanetri with the final score of 23-21 and 21-14.
