Indonesia set to meet Japan in the quarter-final of the Sudirman Cup 2011 – Badminton News
Indonesia is set to meet Japan in the quarter-final of the Sudirman Cup 2011, which will be played on May 27, at Qingdao Sports Centre, a coastal city of China.
Indonesian shuttlers delivered tremendous performances in their group matches against Russia and Malaysia. Despite the fact that the top players of Indonesia including Taufik Hidayat, Markis Kido, Lilyana Natsir and Hendra Setiawan are not participating
in this mixed team championship, the young players are working extremely well in this event.
The shuttlers from Japan also delivered a stunning performance in this event, proving that they have attained a certain level of skills and are ready to meet other shuttlers with confidence.
Director of the Indonesian team, Christian Hadinata, said that Indonesian shuttlers will not underestimate the Japanese players.
Hadi said, “Japan has been developing into a good badminton nation, and their team regularly fields great players at these events. But I believe that our team will win because I’ve seen our young shuttlers improving day by day.”
Japan lost to China and finished at the second spot in the group stage. Japanese shuttlers have been performing well for the last many international events and are quite competent to beat any top player in the world of badminton.
Manager of the national team, Hadi Nazri, said that Japan’s singles shuttler including, Sho Sasaki and Kenichi Tago can create problems for Indonesian shuttlers including Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka and Simon Santoso. He is confident that his shuttlers will
beat the Japanese.
Hadi added, “We have yet to decide the roster against Japan, but there’s a big chance we’ll use the same players in the Russia tie. Our decision will depend on which players are at their peak physical condition.”
The match will be quite interesting as both teams have some top shuttlers which will put up a wonderful show in front of the Chinese crowd. However, Indonesia have got an opportunity to reach in the top four, as they are facing Japan, which is a weaker opponent
when compared to Denmark, China or Korea.
