Indonesia settles in thirteenth slot at the 16th Asian Women’s Volleyball Championship
Indonesia finished the 16th Asian Senior Women’s Volleyball Championship in the thirteenth position overall after they played their last match of the tournament against Kazakhstan on Monday, September 19. The National Taiwan University Gymnasium in Chinese
Taipei hosted the match as the Kazak ladies ousted the Indonesian team in straight sets and marked a 3-0 (25-18, 25-15, and 25-16) victory.
Indonesia has been sidelined after the loss, while Kazakhstan will continue their campaign. They will return to action in the next match against Iran for the 9th to12th places on Wednesday.
The match was opened with both teams looking competitive. Kazakhstan’s players had the height advantage and looked match fit. Drobyshevskaya of Kazakhstan delivered some tricky cross court shots and put her team in the lead at the first technical timeout.
As the play resumed after the break, Kazakhstan exerted more pressure onto the opponents and took control of the operations. Indonesia struggled to snatch points and relied on attacks by Siti Wilda. However, Kazakhstan covered the length of opening set in
20 minutes and seized a 25-18 win.
The loss of the opening set simply aggravated the Indonesian team. They hit back strongly in the second set and jumped to an early lead of 4-2. Meanwhile, Kazakhstan applied the defence strategy and tried to break the rhythm of the Indonesian hitters. They
managed to do so at the first mandatory stop and went up by a margin of one point at 8-7. Eventually Kazakhstan led the scores with 16-10 and further secured the second set by posting 25-15 on board. Akilova Yekaterina of Kazakhstan received huge applause
from the audience for putting up a great effort for her team in the second set.
Indonesia’s chances did not look good in the third set. Kazakhstan, with two sets in hand, made good progress in and picked up a lead of 8-5. The Indonesians threw everything in the attack and displayed a much better performance in the third set. The spirited
effort of the Indonesians brought them really close to Kazakhstan at 12-11. However, the disparity between the two teams started to show as Kazakhstan involved a heavy strike of volleys. Indonesia’s libero had a hard time tackling the powerful shots. With
a better display of attack and defence tactics, Kazakhstan captured the third set at 25-16 and the match at 3-0.
Olga Drobyshevskaya of Kazakhstan was named the top-scorer in the match. She made frequent assaults on the rival side and clipped 12 points. Quite similarly, Marina Storozhenko followed her up with 11 points. Antonina Pimenova supported Kazaskhtan with 9
crucial points. On the other hand, most of the Indonesian players stayed behind the attack line except Siti Wilda who led her team with 8 points.
