Indonesian Badminton Association gives respect to proposals from former greats
Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) humbly gave an open ear to local legends who demanded a structural revamp of national body after disappointing outing in Thomas and Uber Cup Finals 2012.
Indonesia, who had a splendid history in this premium team event, could not even win a spot in top four teams as lost in quarter-final round of both tournaments.
Former badminton greats severely criticised national body for their policies and submitted seven suggestions to improve current condition.
The Secretary General of PBSI Yacob Rusdianto briefed that the association appreciates their concern and told that PBSI chief Djoko Santoso “gladly welcomed all suggestions made by the public, including our former national shuttlers.”
Earlier, former maestros also urged to bring drastic changes in national training and coaching programme and raised questions on appointment of two foreign coaches.
These assembled shuttlers, including kings and queens like Rudy Hartono, Taufik Hidayat, Alan Budikusuma, Susi Susanti and Ivana Lie, passed their judgments on these coaches by mentioning recent failures of the country.
However, Yacob Rusdianto defended his association by claiming that they did not make any move without consultation of governing body.
He said, “What PBSI has done so far — such as upgrading the national training camp’s facilities, providing physical coaches as well as doctors and psychologists — all came from their suggestions.”
The thirteen times winner Indonesia failed terribly in 2012 edition of Thomas and Uber Cup Finals. They, despite looking strong on paper, flew back home after losing in round of eight.
Yacob announced that PBSI will officially present a report on this collapse but he remained silent about the date.
Moreover, he admitted that Singles shuttlers disappointed the nation but he showed contentment over the performance of Women’s flank.
Yacob said, “In singles, we indeed were involved in a deep trouble. But our opponents also performed better than us. Our women fought hard but we weren’t lucky enough. We’re still trying to figure out what went wrong.”
Meanwhile, former World and Olympic champion Taufik Hidayat who was part of this losing side also expressed his troubled thoughts.
Taufik declared lack of team work the biggest reason of this failure and told that everybody was busy with their individual plans and nobody even bothered to keep team spirit alive.
