Indonesian Badminton Association respects harsh criticism from former shuttlers
The Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) showed respect to the harsh criticism of former great shuttlers of the country show showed their disappointment and anger over the poor performance of national team at the Thomas Cup Finals 2012 that ended in Wuhan,
China, last week.
The former Indonesian legends criticised the poor and wrong policies of PBSI relating to the finding of young talent and its grooming. They also demanded the officials in the governing body to behave in a more professional and responsible manner and keep
the rich winning tradition of Indonesia alive.
For the first time in the history of Thomas Cup, Indonesian shuttlers failed to reach into the semi-final of the tournament which made the public and former shuttlers angry and they exploded against the policies of PBSI.
Yacob Rusdianto, the general secretary of PBSI said that they welcome the criticism of former shuttlers and public as well and also expressed the steps taken by the governing body to promote badminton.
He said, “Gladly welcomed all suggestions made by the public, including our former national shuttlers. What PBSI has done so far — such as upgrading the national training camp’s facilities, providing physical coaches as well as doctors and psychologists
— all came from their suggestions.”
However, he also said that PBSI will evaluate the national squad and will try to find out that what went wrong in the preparation that caused Indonesian team to lose against Japan at the quarter-final stage.
Yacob said, “In singles, we indeed were involved in a deep trouble. But also, our opponents also performed better than us.”
Indonesia has been ruling the world of Badminton for the last several decades by producing top quality shuttlers.
But the swift decline in the Indonesian badminton has brought qualm for the former patriotic shuttlers who served the country for years and took it at the top in the world.
However, it is a different story now as no Indonesian shuttler is ranked among the top five positions in the world except the Mixed Doubles pair of Tontowi Ahmad and Liliyana Natsir who are World Number 3 at the moment.
