Indonesian Badminton Super League resumes after 4-year freeze
Djarum Super League Badminton Championship was inaugurated for the first time in 2007, but was suspended after the first season due to administrative issues. Now, after a standstill of four years, the championship is being revived.
Djarum Super League Badminton Championships 2011 coordinator announced that the national badminton authority was going to start the event again in the country. He also announced that all the major stars of badminton will be part of the event, including Taufik
Hidayat, who is among the top seeds.
This championship provides an opportunity to national players to assess themselves and manage their shortcomings before participating in international tournaments. The championship holds different kinds of matches between various clubs of the country.
Seven men’s clubs and six women’s clubs will participate in the 1.35 billion-rupee event. The DBL Arena is being considered for all the matches of the event. The event will commence on 20th February and will go on for about six days till 26th February.
Along with Taufik Hidayat, other top ranked players such as world number four Markis Kido and Hendra Setiawan will take part in the event. The organisers hope that the participation of these players in the event will increase its viewership and credibility.
Tournament chief executive Yoppy Rosimin was found said that the tournament would help promote the sport of badminton in Indonesia. The event is expected to facilitate senior as well as junior badminton players from across the country. The rising stars of
badminton will learn a lot from the senior players if they get chances to play with them in such national events. The event will help them boost their confidence by playing with their country’s stars.
Tangkas Alfamart Jakarta and Jaya Raya Suryanaga will also participate in the event and will try to defend the title they won four years ago in 2007. The duo expressed the wish that foreign players could also take part in the tournament as it would feature
most of the top players in the country.
Taufik Hidayat, deputy head of the SGS PLN Bandung club and a 2004 Olympics Gold Medallist, has a promising attitude and has played a key role in the promotion of badminton in his country. He said he would participate in the event though he also had to participate
in the China Badminton League.
All the biggest stars and officials of badminton have wished well for the event and have expressed the hope that the tournament would be organised every year like other championships at the national level.
