Indonesian athletes prevail in respective disciplines at the South East Asian Games - Athletics news
With the supremacy of Heru Astriyanto and Agus Prayago in middle and long distance running events respectively, Indonesian athletes looked dominant at the South East Asian Games (SEA) events held at Jakabaring Sports Complex, in the capital city of Southern Sumatera, Palembang, Indonesia, from November 12-16.
The men’s category of 400 metres was won by Indonesian athlete, Heru Astriyanto, who cruised to finishing line in a decent time of 47.53 seconds. He was followed by Archand Christian Bagsit, who was able to win second spot in a time of 47.71 seconds. Another Indonesian athlete, Yakobus Leuwol, settled for the third place with a finish of 47.97 seconds.
Thailand’s Chatchawal Polyiam added more medals to his accolades, as he dominated the men’s Shot Put discipline with a throw of 17.74 metres. He was given a tough challenge by Malaysia’s Adi Alufuddin. However, Polyiam kept on to his ground and secured the top spot.
Adi Alufuddin, approaching with a consistent effort in the contest, smashed his National record when he scored a magnificent attempt of 17.54 metres for the second position. The third position was secured by Thai athlete, Promrob Juntima with a score of 17.08 metres.
The men’s 5000 metres race turned out to be a close contest between the front runners. Agus Prayago of Indonesia prevailed over the rest of the field with a finish at 14 minutes and 10.01 seconds. A mere reflection of a winner’s approach was seen by Prayago’s compatriot, Jauhari Johan, who managed to cover the distance in a timeline of 14 minutes 35.98 seconds for the second position. Vietnamese athlete, Nguyen Van Lai was able to clinch the third spot on the podium with a timeline of 14 minutes and 41.30 seconds.
Indonesian athlete, Triyaningsih grabbed her second gold medal in the 5000 metres category, after a victory in the 10,000m category. The fans had wholesome admiration for the athlete as she finished the 5000 metres distance in a decent time of 16 minutes and 6.37 seconds. After winning, she stated, “I’m really grateful that I was able to win the race. Hopefully, I also can do my best in the Marathon”.
The second spot in the women’s 5000 metres category was attained by Phyu War Thet, who cleared the distance in a time of 16 minutes and 12.23 seconds. She was followed by Indonesian athlete, Rini Budiarti for the third position with a time of 16 minutes and 31.85 seconds.
