Indonesian coach Hendrawan’s nine-player squad is set to split into two groups to accommodate Misbun Sidek
The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) has divided the 9-member group of men’s singles squad, being handled by Indonesian coach, Hendrawan, to two groups. The division has been carried out to accommodate the former National coach Misbun Sidek. From
a group of nine shuttlers, who have been working under the supervision of Hendrawan, four or five players will be handed over to Misbun for training.
For the last two years, Hendrawan has been coaching the back-up shuttlers of the Malaysian national squad along with some young players. However, the BAM has made some changes in his training and coaching plans and instructed him to work in coordination
with Misbun. The governing body have made changes to the plans of Hendrawan for the third time in the last two years. The coach, although a little stressed, is optimistic that this will be the last change in his squad.
“I am tasked to build a solid team to win honours at the 2014 Asian Games and 2016 Olympics but the players under my charge keep changing. It does make me tense. Hopefully, there will be no more changes,” said Hendrawan.
The coach also added that he has no objection against the decision of BAM as he has a good professional relationship with Misbun. He is waiting to receive the final instructions regarding the players for future plans.
Hendrawan is currently coaching Mohd Syawal Mohd Ismail, Mohd Arif Abdul Latif, Loh Wei Sheng, Kuan Kam Chung, Lim Fang Yang, Goh Soon Huat, Iskandar Zulkarnain, Tew Gee Chong and also Misbun Ramdan Misbun, who is the son of Misbun Sidek.
Misbun Ramdan said that he has learnt a lot from Hendrawan but he will be happy to train under the supervision of his father.
Iskandar on the other hand, claimed that both Hendrawan and Misbun were world-class coaches and appreciated their services for Malaysia. He also said that it will not make any difference at all to play under either Misbun or Hendrawan as he is open to learn
from any coach assigned to him by the BAM.
The final decision on who joins Hendrawan, and which lot of players train under Misbun, will be revealed by the governing body in the coming few days.
