Indonesian food?

Question

what are some of the traditional dishes in Indonesian cuisine? please provide name of dish and a description. all categories (appetizers, main course, desserts, drinks, etc.) welcome.

I usually use this menu during first dinner with my european friends and they love it.

Appetizer:

Soto Ayam (yellow spicy chicken soup with turmeric) or

Lemper (small one)

Main course:

White rice or Nasi goreng

Gado-gado

Marinated Chicken Satay - sate ayam (if the weather permits then we had bbq) with peanut sauce

Opor ayam

Beef Rendang

served with rempeyek kacang or emping (indonesian crackers)

Dessert:

Ice Cendol or Kue lapis (spek koek) with chocolate ice.

Satay Sticks with peanut sauce - ap

Gado Gado, its a vegetable salad with peanut sauce & boiled egg, sounds wierd but it is out of this world, you would have it as a dish with your main or as a starter to share,

Nasi Goreng, spicy fried rice with lovely bits & pieces and topped with crispy fried egg & herbs etc very tasty,

Dendang Balado, is a twice cooked bbq style chicken that is heavily marinated and sticky and usually served with a chilli sauce, really tender.  Beef Rendang is a must, so are Eggplant (aubergine) fritters, a slab of eggplant battered and deep fried with chilli on the top.  All these can land on the table at once with some plain white rice and you could feed 6 comfortably, everybody gets a bit of everything very tasty food
