Indonesian girls cross Thai hurdle to meet Chinese in second round of German Open
Indonesia surpassed Thailand in women’s doubles event and fixed its meeting with China in second round of the German Open, yesterday.
The Indonesian female shuttlers Meiliana Jauhari and Greysia Polii overpowered their opponent Thai duo Duanganong Aroonkesorn-Kunchala Voravichitchaikul in their first encounter of the German Open Grand Prix Gold 2012.
The Indonesians are all set to meet the Chinese couple Shu Cheng-Pan Pan, who beat another Thailand’s female doubles team to earn their spot in pre quarter-finals.
The World Number nine Indonesian duo had to sweat hard against their Thai rivals as it was not at all a smooth sailing for them. The exhausting tussle was settled in three sets and more than 80 minutes. The Thai pair had to bow down when scorers displayed
the final scores of 19-21, 21-19 and 21-19 in the end.
The Indonesian girls had to face defeat in first set as their comparatively low ranked challengers World Number 22 Thai pair Duanganong-Kunchala edged them in a close fight.
The Thai shuttlers had to stretch their arms to full length to embrace the victory in opening set as the Indonesian pair Meiliana Jauhari-Greysia Polii put great resistance before the Thailand’s female pair clinched first match point with final score of
21-19 on the board.
The duo Duanganong-Kunchala of Thailand could not double its 1-0 lead in the second set as the Indonesians stormed back in the game and dazzled their rivals with their lustrous performance.
The Indonesian pair Meiliana Jauhari-Greysia Polii levelled the lead by winning second set with the scoreboard showing final score of 21-19. Their Thai rivals got pale against their technical and tactical supremacy.
This twist kept the spectators glued to their chairs as the loser had to bid farewell to the event. The Indonesian duo exhibited its prime skills to raise the lead to decisive margin of 2-1. They hammered the Thai girls by registering final score of 21-19.
Both teams equally put a great show to seal the victory and earned great deal of admiration but this nerve-racking battle ended with the Indonesians advancing for the next round.
Indonesia will now lock horns with China in pre quarterfinals of women’s doubles event in the German Open today.
