Indonesian men’s doubles stars Markis Kido and Hendra Setiawan to tie the knots in 2011
The marriages of Indonesian men’s doubles stars Markis Kido and Hendra Setiawan are scheduled to be held in July and October 2011.
They are the current Olympic champions and are at number six in the world rankings conducted by Badminton World Federation.
They will begin a new phase of life after receiving a lot of fame by winning numerous titles in the world of Badminton. After their marriages, they will get some time off from badminton before preparing for the 2012 London Olympics.
“I am getting married in July while Hendra will tie the knot in October. It is going to be an interesting year ahead of us. We will have new responsibilities to deal with,” said Markis.
He further added that the duo has left the national squad to become independent shuttlers. Markis said that he cannot imagine leaving the game for a single day. He will continue playing as an independent shuttler without facing any restrictions from the
Badminton Association of Indonesia.
The duo left the men’s doubles national squad at the start of 2010. However, they won the crown in the Asian Games, where they defeated the top seeds of Malaysia, Tan Boon Heong and Koo Kien Keat in the title match.
Markis and Setiawan have won all titles in the world of Badminton except the All England Open.
“We have won at the Olympics, the world championships and the Asian Games. But the All-England title remains elusive. Our last attempt in March also ended in disappointment,” he said.
However, the pair is optimistic to keep improving their game and their main focus will be the London Games, which will probably be their last Olympic event. Markis revealed that the duo will be working in the field of coaching after their retirement from
competitive badminton.
While talking about the future of the young Indonesian shuttlers, Markis said, “There are some upcoming players. They are good but need more exposure. I am confident they will take over from us.”
