Indonesian rider Ferinanto wins first stage of 2011 Tour of Singkarak: Cycling News
United Bike Kencana–Malang team’s Ferinanto won the first stage and also took an overall leader’s yellow jersey in 2011 Tour of Singkarak in Padang on Monday, June 6.
Ferinanto took a total of 1 hours, 28 minutes and 23 seconds to cover the distance of 85.4 kilometres. He was among the members who got appointed in his national squad for the upcoming SEA Games.
After winning the stage, the 33-year-old Ferinanto said, “I’m happy to win today. However, I was not fully pleased on my achievement in the first stage. I still consider it a trial.”
Chan Jae Jang of Terengganu Pro-Asia Cycling was runner-up with the same timing of Ferinanto. Projo Waseso of United Bike Kencana – Malang finished third, while Sergey Kudentsov was in fourth place.
Do Hyeong Kim tried his best to catch the 106 riders, but he failed and grabbed the 107th spot with a difference of 15 seconds behind Ferinanto. Nugroho Kisnanto was also in good form and grabbed the sixth place.
A group of four riders made their first break-away, including Alireza Haghi (Azad University), Chan Jae Jang (Terengganu Pro-Asia Cycling Team) Mohd Harrif Salleh and Projo Waseso (United Bike Kencana – Malang).
All of them gained a lead of two minutes over the peloton. Chan Jae Jang tried his best to cross the Iranian Champion but Alireza made his pace and won the sprint leader’s green jersey ahead of other cyclists.
In the start two national teams, Prima Utama and Prima Muda was not in good form and Indonesia coach, Ronny Yahya, was not upset and said "It is OK for the first stage. We will be able to measure our and other teams’ power in stage three. So far, we are
just observing how the race will be played, and I applaud the boys’ good cooperation today.''
Ferinanto also took the title of Best Indonesian riders ahead of his country-mates, Projo Waseso and Nugroho Kisnanto.
Ferinanto also took an overall lead with the timing of 1 hour, 28 minutes and 13 seconds. Chan Jae Jang was runner-up with 2 seconds behind Ferinanto. Projo Waseso finished third with the difference of 6 seconds.
Sergey Kudentsov (Polygon Sweet Nice – Surabaya) was in the sixth place with a difference of 10 seconds.
The next stage will start in Padang and end in Pariaman. All the riders will cover a distance of 105 kilometres.
