Indonesia’s Taufik Hidayat surges into Men’s Singles second round of the 2011 Canada Open Grand Prix
Indonesia’s top shuttler, Taufik Hidayat sailed smoothly into the Men’s Singles second round as he sent Switzerland’s Anthony Dumartheray packing in the opening round battle of the 2011 Canada Open Grand Prix, in Canada, on Wednesday, July 20.
The top seed in the tournament, Taufik, who is currently enjoying a world ranking of Number Four in the Men’s Singles category, showed his class as he played with complete calmness for which he is quite famous in the entire world of badminton. A relaxed
Taufik took only 24 minutes to beat Dumartheray with considerable ease in a straight-set match.
Taufik, who is a former Olympic and world champion, opened his campaign against the Swiss shuttler and progressed slowly in the opening half. Dumartheray was also playing well in the first part of the opening game and remained close to the top seed. At the
interval, Taufik was three points ahead of the Swiss shuttler at 11-8.
After the break, the Indonesian geared up his speed a little and started to employ his powerful smashes along with perfect tumbling net shots. Dumartheray had no answer to the planned and accurate play of his experienced opponent, who was playing with wonderful
ease. Hidayat bagged the opening game with a five-point difference of 21-16, in 14 minutes.
Taufik continued to sail smoothly in the second game, where he established a superb lead of 11-5 until the end of the first-half. The smooth flow of Taufik in the court disturbed the momentum of his challenger, as the Indonesian was playing difficult shots
with notable ease.
In the second-half of the set, the top seed progressed smoothly without any break as he was playing with precision. The Indonesian cheered the crowd by hitting some beautiful jump smashes, which landed perfectly on the side lines of the court.
Taufik won the second set with an eight-point margin of 21-13, in just 10 minutes. The 24-minutes straight-set Men’s Singles fight ended with a 21-16 and 21-13 score on the board.
