Indonesia’s legendary shuttlers criticise on the poor policies of PBSI – Badminton news
Indonesia’s former legendary shuttlers could not extend tolerance anymore on the poor policies of Indonesian badminton Association (PBSI) that have accelerated the downfall of badminton in Indonesia.
The former Indonesian shuttler have decided to take initiative to put the country’s most popular sport back on track especially after the poor performance of national shuttlers in last week’s Thomas Cup Finals 2012 where the Indonesian team failed to reach
into semi-final for the first time in the history of the tournament.
The Indonesian shuttlers have been showing a quivering performance for the last few years but PBSI failed to produce top quality players despite having the services of foreign coaches.
Indonesia’s former World Champion Ivana Lie said, “We are not against foreign coaches. We’d have no problem if they were great coaches. However, they’ve been here for two years and we haven’t seen any progress. We believe the PBSI should reconsider their
jobs.”
A few officials of PBSI have also joined the voice of former legends and have demanded that if the responsible officials of the governing body cannot perform according to the expectations then they should simply step down from their positions.
The current World Number 12 Taufik Hidayat, who is the former Olympic and World Champion, also joined this criticism against the poor policies of PBSI.
Rudy Hartono, one of the best shuttlers in the history of Indonesia, said that he has been suggesting different things to PBSI but they did not pay any heed.
He said, “I’m still on the PBSI advisory board. I’ve been giving advice, but they’ve haven’t taken any of it. I hope now they will listen. If they cannot do their jobs well, they should just step down from the PBSI.”
Another great shuttler Joko Suprianto also expressed his disappointment over Indonesia’s loss at the quarter-final stage in Thomas Cup Finals by calling it the darkest day for the badminton in Indonesia.
The World Number 3 Liliyana Natsir and Tontowi Ahmad are the only Indonesian shuttlers who remained consistent at international stage for the last couple of years and have won many international tournaments in the Mixed Doubles category.
