Question:

Indoor Cricket, Your opinion?

I've been playing indoor cricket in a league for about 3-4 years now and personally I find it to be exciting, fast (and sometimes painful) form of cricket. Also my fielding skills have gone through the roof.

However although i love it i would like to see what you think of it, have you even played indoor?

  1. Hey, nowadays most houses don't have lawns, so the children are compelled to play cricket indoors, usually in the terraces, and sometimes also in the rooms. Even the number of parks and open grounds are decreasing day by day, as they are being taken up for construction purposes. so, indoor cricket seems to be the only solution. It's a lot of fun, but quite dangerous though. My friends and I got severe punishment and a good scolding from the principal for playing "classroom cricket", in the off period when I was in the 8th standard. Lol! that was bad. I used to play catch indoors. which resulted in a lot of broken objects. Also, whenever my cousins and I played on the roof, the balls would invariably fly above the walls, and land in the neighbours compound and were not retrieved. So, there are many hazards and obstacles too. But you did say something about playing indoor cricket in a league, and I had no idea that indoor cricket is played in a professional level. What we did was just for fun, and nothing else.

  2. It is used for only net practice by cricketers :)

  3. sure

  4. I played for number of years in a Division two side (there were 18 divisions so div 2 was pretty high!!) and yes, the one thing it did improve was fielding reflexes.

It is great fun. I was fortunate enough to play in good side and struck up a great friendly rivalry with another team. We both started in div 8, where we beat everyone easily aside from each other where each time we would play, there was often only a couple of runs, if not 1 run difference. We played the grand final and we won by only 1 run. in Div 5 the following season, same thing, then div 3 then div 2. Things actually changed a bit in div 2 because we managed to perform better with getting a new ball each game! The difference that makes is huge.

The other things that improved for me were batting. There were a couple of things here that improved: 1 calling - in indoor cricket as you would know the time you get to call is greatly reduced. I found that I could call in the outdoor form of the game with greater certainty and speed. 2 - shot selection - as I was still having to put bat on ball in the off season, I found that when the real season came around, I could make better shot selections.

Bowling: Again, as I was still rolling my arm over through the winter, when I first turned up for training for the season proper, I could get straight in to it! I found in my indoor years was when my bowling was at it's quickest by far

I loved my years of playing this and I am sure it enhanced my game for the real deal.
