Indoor Cricket to boost the popularity of the sport in the Gulf States
The decision by the Dubai Cricket Council (DCC) to organize an indoor cricket tournament is being looked at as a doorway to a new era in the sport as a full tournament with covered grounds has never been experimented with in the middle-east.
Giving his views regarding the introduction of indoor cricket, the head of the Global Cricket Academy in the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/United-Arab-Emirates-c3033 (UAE) said, “Indoor cricket is popular worldwide. There is [a] huge amount of interest and enthusiasm for it. It is also an
opportunity for the cricketers to use the excellent facilities we have here.”
Speaking on the rules of this newly invented introduced format, he said, “Depending on the facility, rules too changes. In some places indoor cricket is played without much running between the wickets due to shortage of space, but here we have a huge facility
that they will have to run to score runs."
According to the details about the format of the game, each side will be allotted 16-overs to bowl, A pair will only be allowed to bat for four overs and on every wicket, five runs will be deducted from the total tally.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c749, which helped him in improving his bowling. He insisted that due
to the extreme hot weather of the Arabian Peninsula, cricketers in the UAE will now have the luxury of retaining form by playing indoors.
Expressing views on the indoor tournament, the general manager of the Global academy, Ekta Hutton, said, “We were astounded by the response with over 25 teams wanting to play. For a start we had to restrain to 12 teams and will include more teams for Ramadan
indoor tournament."
Indoor cricket has been evolving since the late 1960s but the existing formats are said to have started taking shape in the early 1980s. The interesting thing of this sport is that unlike its predecessor, the outdoor cricket, it only has eight players in
both the sides.
The first world cup of this type of cricket was played in 1995 at Birmingham, England and has been played after every two to three years. The last indoor world cup was played in 2009, in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746, where the host nation won the titles in both the men’s and
women’s event. That year, the teams which took part in the event included Australia, England, South African, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754.
For the men’s event http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 and Pakistan were also supposed to take part in the contest, but had to be dropped because of immigration problems, regarding entering Australia.
