I am planning a garden theme wedding for July of 2009. I am struggling because I am doing an indoor wedding reception and don't know a good way to decorate and need some ideas. I was thinking something like bubble bowls filled with flowers, but I'm concerned that will be too plain... I need ideas for center peices and other decoration ideas as well.

  1. Start visiting your local craft stores now. Many of them will be having 'summer' items on clearance, such as feather butterflies, dragonflies and such. Stock up to include them in your decorating.  You'll want to see if you can find places to either buy (if you think you can re-use it) or rent arches, the kind you'd find in a garden. Place them near the door, over the cake table as well. Same thing trellis' that you could either cover in silk ivy or have garlands made by your florist (pricey though). See if there is a way the venue would allow you to bring in a water feature to add ambiance. Use as many christmas white lights as you can throughout. Large lacy ferns will help fill empty spaces.

For centerpieces I would use a tall vase with an arrangement on the top that 'drips' flowers and greenery. Put a battery operated tea light in the vase surrounded by glass marbles to give it a 'glow'. Use those butterflies and dragonflies throughout the entire venue.

  2. You might like big arches with flowers around key parts of the reception. Like the cake table or the punch bowl table. It adds some elegance and ties in with your theme. If you like the idea of a bowl as a centerpeice, mayb have some flowers floating in a bowl of water and perhaps some floating candles. If you'd like to add more demention to your reception hall, mix in some taller vases with flowers so the room doesn't look "flat" or plain. Good luck :)

  3. Try clear vases filled with rose buds.  If it's allowed by your venue, place a few tealight candles in clear holders around the tables. To add a little more color to your table, sprinkle some rose petals around the center of the reception tables.

Since the reception is indoors, try using silver accents to help the light move around the room.  Also, some good garden themes are butterflies, pears, calla lilys, and orchids.  Below is a link with favors of this theme to help give you inspiration.

    Take care!

  4. When I did my mother-in-laws wedding, I did use bubble bowls.  But I put the flowers on the outside.

First, I bought purple sand and mixed it 1pt to 3pt's white sand for a softer color.  I poured about 1/2" in the bottom of the bowl and put an ivory votive candle in the center.

Then, I made a ring of English Ivy and placed ivory colored rosebuds and a lavender satin bow where I joined the ends of the ivy.  It went around the base of the bowl.  Everyone remarked on how nice it  all looked.  A couple of people even asked if they could take one home.
