I am hoping someone might know if there is such a thing. I am looking to cool a room with just a sliding door so can not vent outside. Is there an AC that does not require venting to cool about 350 sq ft?

  1. i haven't ever needed to know about such a device. however, i received an for portable ACs in my email today! perhaps this info can help point you in the right direction:

    Amcor PLM12000EH

    Delonghi PAC-C100

    Amana 40182377

  2. Yes, although it is not powered by electricity alone. It is done by running cold water through a coil and a fan blowing air over it.

  3. All refrigeration type AC units remove heat and transfer it somewhere else, usually outside.  They do this using a medium of heat transfer.  Some of these are air, water refrigerant, glycol but whatever it is it needs to transfer the heat somewhere.  If you do not transfer this heat out of the area you are trying to cool then the room will not get cooler.  So while it is possible that there is a unit that does not require "venting to the outside it will still require the medium of heat transfer to reach the outside or some other area to dump the heat.

  4. Nnnnnnope. You may be able to move the heat from one room to another (by blowing cool air into the room and forcing the warm air to leave), but the process requires energy and creates additional heat due to the laws of thermodynamics. At some point you need to come up with a way to send the heat outside.

Get a fan, is what I would suggest. Even if the actual temperature isn't lower, the moving air will make it feel cooler.

  5. there are portable AC units that would do the trick.
