  1. Well, as of lately, it has provided a variety of steady jobs for people who previously didn't have one.  The one down side to this is that the lack of any sort of meaningful government regulation means the working conditions are sometimes not all that great and the pollution can be pretty bad.


  2. Major industrial money machines are taking their manufacturing out of industrialized countries and taking them to 3rd world nations so they can pay cheaper salaries with no regulations.  And if those 3rd world countries try to set up regulations or demand more salary the major industrial money machines will just go to another 3rd world location.
