  1. The race usually takes about 3 and 1/2 hours if the weather stays nice for the entire race. They only run on a dry track. Make sure that you bring ear plugs as the cars are very loud. Also bring sun screen and rain gear in case. Also, if you are parking near the track expect long delays when leaving. The croud for the race is huge! Have a great time!

  2. wow nascar....its like driving really fast into a corner, and then out of it, click goes cruise control until the next corner

  3. I've only been to qualifying, but expect LOTS OF NOISE and lots of 'good ole boys'.

    Have fun!!!!!

  4. there are diffrent ways to go about this me and my wife usally leave on the friday before the race and camp across the road from the race track in the coke a cola plant field. if you are going the day of the race there is plenty of parking befor you get to the track you will pay a little more but its worth it. you can buy good tickets outside of the track we buy ours about 1 hour before the race starts thats usually about the best time to buy them beacuse people are giving them away so they dont eat them best pace to sit is in the north west vista you can see the cars comming down the back streatch into turn 3 into the short shoot into turn 4 and down the front stretch. its very loud and very cool to see those cars go 220+mph around that historic track. enjoy

  5. Arrange your travel ahead of time. There are a variety of public transportation options that save you the hassle of parking and walking but you can't have your cooler full of goodies.

Try to arrive early to enjoy a walk around the facility and all the pageantry.

Bring sunscreen, cap, jacket and umbrella: Indy weather can be unpredictable.

If you can afford the food there it is pretty easy to get through the day without a cooler. A shoulder bag with your sunscreen, jacket, umbrella, a bottle or two of water, spare batteries and film, a few light snacks, gum, sunglasses, any medicines you may need.

The race itself is only a few hours, don't expect to watch and see it all. It's a 2 1/2 mile track with seats in the middle. You may only see a turn or two. A book is handy for long delays.

Dress comfortably with cottons and good shoes. Even if you're not parking three miles away it may still be a long day of walking.

  6. The people watching alone is priceless

  7. Cars making left turns all day and a h**l of a lot of racket...

Save your money by sitting next to the expressway with a can of beer...  It will be less unnerving
