Ines Ferrer Suarez stomps over Sandra Zahlavova in qualifiers – Nurnberger Gastein Ladies 2012
Seeded fifth in the tournament, Ines Ferrer Suarez, powered down the Czech, Sandra Zahlavova, in a three-set nail-biter at the Nurnberger Gastein Ladies 2012 on Sunday. He summed up a 6-3, 4-6, 7-6(0) victory against the Plzen native to advance into the
final round at the qualifying competition at this WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) International-level tournament held in Austria.
The seeded Spaniard spilled more double faults and took the set to the third set tie-breaker. She unveiled her skills in it before pocketing the match in two hours and 41 minutes at this red clay court tournament.
Ferrer Suarez enthusiastically entered the opening set and drew the first blood in the fourth game to jump to a 3-1 lead. She then exchanged two serve breaks and served out the opener with a 6-3 success.
The world number 240, Zahlavova, got in action in the second set and after earning the critical break in the fourth game, she leaped to a 4-1 lead. The Czech exchanged two serve breaks in the last four games and clicked the equaliser by winning six games
to four.
Ranked 205th in the WTA Premier Rankings, Ferrer Suarez fought back hard in the final set and stayed in contention. After several exchange of breaks, the Spaniard dragged the final set to the tie-breaker and showed solid tennis in it, eventually
sealing the set with a 7-6(0) win.
Summing up the 22-year-old’s performance, Ferrer Suarez clobbered a better first serve share of 57 per cent as compared to her rival’s 54 per cent and tremendously marked 31 out of 60 points on it. She blocked five out of 14 breakpoints she came across and
cashed in nine out of 18 break opportunities to register this victory.
Next in queue for Ferrer Suarez is the eighth seed, Richel Hogenkamp, who dumped Croatia’s Maria Abramovic in straight sets to set up this duel.
The sixth seed, Maria Elena Camerin, faced a bitter fate later that day. She bowed out to the Croatian contestant, Ani Mijacika, in troublesome straight sets in one hour and 11-minute venture. She broke her opponent’s serve four times but lost her serve
seven times, eventually registering a 3-6, 3-6 defeat.
