Ines Ferrer-Suarez vaporises Castiblanco Duarte to reach the final eight – Santiago ITF 2011
Fifth seeded Spaniard, Ines Ferrer-Suarez, swallowed Colombian Karen Emili Castiblanco Duarte with a bagel at the Copa Providencia BCI 2011, an ITF event taking place on the clay courts in Santiago, Chile. She breezed past with
a 6-2, 6-0 victory over the 23-year-old Colombian to secure a quarter-final spot on Wednesday.
World number 268 Suarez displayed brilliant skills and abilities to reel off last ten games in a row, slaying the Colombian, ranked 177 spots below her, on their first encounter. She not only booked a quarter-final spot but also
got one step closer to her maiden career title.
The Spaniard positively entered the Argentinean courts and fought head-to-head until the Colombian kept her serve in the fourth game. After this, she went into savage mode and wiped out next four games in a row, winning the opener
with a 6-2 score line. She defended all breakpoints came across and cashed in two out of four breakpoint opportunities to her advantage.
Suarez kept her rage mode on in the final set and unleashed another barrage of groundstrokes to strike out next six games consecutively. She warded off all three breakpoints faced and cashed in half of the six breakpoint opportunities
to her advantage, pocketing a bagel in under half an hour.
Next up for the seed is the Brazilian qualifier Paula Cristina Goncalves who made an epic come against Norwegian qualifier Ulrikke Eikeri to advance into the spot. She registered a 6-7(4), 6-4, 6-4 victory over the shinning qualifier
in almost two and half hour long marathon.
Top seeded American Julia Cohen became a casualty earlier that day. She exited from the second round of this tournament after suffering loss by the hands of Peruvian Bianca Botto.
Ranked 182nd in the Sony Ericsson WTA Premier Rankings, Cohen showed her class in the second set and successfully equalised the set score. However, she lost her serve twice in the end and eventually suffered a 3-6, 6-4,
2-6 defeat on their first battle with each other.
The Peruvian made quickly on track to clinch her second year-to-date title as she got an early break of serve and bagged the opener in almost thirty minutes. Botto then broke Cohen’s serve twice in the decider and comfortably advanced
in this tournament.
She will next face Argentinean Mailen Auroux who blasted past Dutch qualifier Angelique van der Meet with a breadstick to secure this spot. Aurox broke the Dutchwoman’s serve thrice to clobber a 6-1, 6-4 score line.
