I don't mind of they don't have a great atmosphere or anything like that. I'm just looking for delicious food for reasonable prices. I've been to the Argyle red line station for inexpensive Vietnamese food so I was wondering if there was something like that for Korean food. Cafeteria style is fine.

  1. Crisp on Broadway has korean fried chicken.

    next door is Koryo

  2. Wow there are so many choices.  Are your looking for Korean BBQ??  Two great spots one is Cho Su Nook on Lincoln and Berteau.  Great stone pot and then there is San Soo Ka San its on Western and Peterson.  I think its like 5200 block of western.  Also Chicago foods has a back cooking area very down low that is ok.  And lastly Joy Yee Noodles has good Korean dishes too.  If your are in the burbs the new asisa market in niles has a very good food court.

  3. i love san soo gap san:

the seafood pancakes is delicious, and i love the atmosphere - there's always something happening. it's a great place to congregate with friends over barbecue.

  4. You have countless options in Chicago for Korean food. The Korean community has largely moved to the suburbs (think Niles), but there are still many in the city.

    Here's a list of a few:

(Skip Jin Ju if you want a more traditional and less hipster atmosphere.)

Also try the restaurant search function on Metromix.com, where you can narrow your search by cuisine (i.e., Korean). That tool is one of my favorites when I am looking for things to do around the city.

I'm not a fan of San Soo Gab San, because my party and I once all got sick after eating there. However, it's a popular place, and that could have just been an atypical happening.

Don't forget: The Chicago Korean Festival always takes place in mid-August, so be on the lookout for it. It typically takes place in the Bryn Mawr/Kimball area.

  5. Woo Lae Oak in Schaumburg is a little pricey but WAY worth it.
