I'm taking my grandson to Hawaii: Oahu, Mauii and Hawaii. I can't afford the extra expensive restaurants. Where can we eat and still have good food?

  1. While in Oahu, the inexpensive restaurants are the better places to eat.  Try Zippy's Restaurant (it's like the McDonalds of Hawaii); Try Shave ice while on the islands (Waiolas Shave Ice) tons of reviews on this place.  You know its good when you see a crew of firemen and their truck parked in front of this place (in the middle of a residential area).  If you want to adventure into the local flavors, try Helena's Haw'n Foodor Ono Ono Haw'n Food (on Oahu), both have a zagat rating & they're the real deal!  Many of the places that looks like a "hole in the wall" are actually really good (I use to live in Honolulu HI)

  2. Some good inexpensive restaurants on Maui are:

    Da Kitchen in Kahului

    CJ's Deli in Kaanapali

    Honokowai Okazuya in Honokowai

    Penne Pasta in Lahaina

    Cafe Des Amis in Paia

All the above and many other restaurants in each price range are reviewed, with menu lists and food photos, on the Restaurants tab of

    http://www.mauihawaii.org

  3. On the island of Maui, Da Kitchen serves popular local, hawaiian and american food--large servings at reasonable prices.  Da Kitchen is near the airport at 425 Koloa St in the city of Kahului.

On the Big Island of Hawaii, Ken's House of Pancakes is open 24 hours a day and also serves local, hawaiian and american food--again large portions at reasonable prices.  The pride themselves with the spirit of Aloha and has been there for years.  Ken's House of Pancakes is near the hotels in Hilo on 1730 Kamehameha Avenue.

On the island of Oahu, you have choices of Ige's Kitchen and 19th puka in Aiea, Nancy's Kitchen in Waipio, Haleiwa Joe's on the famous north shore of Oahu, Mac 24/7 in Prince Kuhio Hotel and the restaurant chain called Zippy's throughout the island.  There are several different restaurants at the shopping centers around Oahu.  From Pearlridge, Ala Moana, Windward Mall, Mililani Town Center and Kapolei Marketplace.  All are accessible either through Yahoo Search or through their friends at G**gle. :)  Aloha!
