  1. Option: 1  If it's not covered with mold, wipe it clean and go over it with some paint (easy solution if you're not picky: go to your nearest home improvement store and get some "oops" paint--those that were returned because it wasn't the right color).

Option 2:  Use an old sheet or some kind of large fabric and stick up using a staple gun

Option 3: Use newspapers or magazine, etc for a more "eclectic" look.  Use glue like Modge Podge(normally used for decoupage)...this may not be a very good option if you plan to change the ceiling some day and this might be costly if you use the wrong adhesive.

Option 4:  Not sure how much head room you have but...using four chains (depending on heaviness) hang something from the ceiling to keep your eye away away from the old ceiling...something colorful?  a sheet?  Another light fixture?

Option 5: Buy some ceiling tiles and find a way to keep them up there

    Good luck!

  2. ok this may sound dumb but the results a re fantastic.

I was remodling a home for a single man. he wanted his bathroom ceiling redone cheap as possible. it was a mess with old paper falling off etc. so i removed as muchof the old paper as possible. then i got somejoint compund..added the off white paint to it. then globobbed it on a little at a time and smoothed it out. i continued to do this til the whole ceiling was covered and smoothed over it again. or you could use your hands and make it bumpy..not large bumps... to make it textured. this will also help with a ceiling thats not level. when it dried it looked like a new ceiling. very cheap to do and last a long time. you need to add the paint to seal the joint compound. also make sure you smooth the corners well. so this looks like wall board instead of something else. good luck and have fun!! huggsss
