  1. For 6 mos and older, those k**b puzzles are great.  The 1-6 mos. just focus on toys in front of them where they can reach for objects.  Just grabbing items at the newborn stage is fine motor.  Beaded necklaces are great.  As long as they are the kind that are not individually strung, because if they break they could choke.

  2. This won't be a text book answer! But it does come with lots of experience!

I don't have an actual lesson plan.

I take each day at a time. I try to be in-tune with what the infant is wanting for the day. Sometimes they want more snuggle time, sometimes they want to play.

    Offer variety.

Infants are little sponges, taking in more then I think we really comprehend! They understand & know more words way before they actually talk.

Sign language is a good thing to teach an infant.

You can teach body parts, animals & their sounds through talking, play, songs,  & reading books.

Taking in account- Infants the 1st few months will probably sleep most of the time! Stimuation & bonding is important.

Playing music is fun while they play. Take every opportunity to teach through play.

A large blanket on the floor  offers a nice place to play with them.

Introduce them to different toys, books, blocks, balls, & music.

You can teach counting, colors, language, all while playing. You can show puzzles, & it's another good way to teach language & manipulation. (The puzzle pieces usually end up in the mouth though!)

A Large excercise ball is fun!

You can bouce them on the ball, & sing Ride a little pony! Ride to Town!..

You can roll them on thier tummy on the ball, until thier hands touch the ground, them roll them back until thier feet touch, back & forth!

Another fun physical way to play- Sit on the floor, sitting the child toward you, holding thier hands- lean back & forth while singing Row Row Row your boat!

Infants love when you look at them, & talk to them, physical contact.

Think about all they learn the 1st year!

From tummy time play, to learning to sit up, to learning to crawl, to learning to stand, to learning to walk! It's amazing! That's just the physical. Who knows the depth of what they actually learn the 1st year!

I love spending time with infants, bonding, singing, & acting silly!

Singing is a great teaching tool!

If your happy & you know it is a favorite song!

They start off learning to clap, then eventually they learn to stomp thier feet, then they learn to raise thier arms & say hurray!

Take little ones to the library for story time, even as infants.

Take them out doors & talk about things you see.

Sing often.. Have fun! (Make up songs!)

Children learn about the world around them through songs. They learn language & songs help them remember words.

Example: Sing- I look out the win-dow & what do I see?..I see birds a sing-ing, sing-ing for me! I look out the win-dow & what do I see? I see Trees a swaying, swaying for me!...

Have small riding & rocking toys, & other little tykes toys.

They require help & their interest may not last at first when playing with them.

They also enjoy pushing toys, when they start standing.

A small kitchen, or train table is also nice for when they start learning to stand & play.

    As for Fine Motor Skills-

When they start eating Peas & Cheerios are great for fine motor skills. Put them in a smaller container so they have to pinch at them to get them out.

Playing with them letting them grab for your hair, or grab at a shoe string.

...Funny how children learn fine motor skills on thier own...picking up tiny pieces, finding them everywhere on the floor! LOL!

Sorry I wrote so much! ...I hope this helps & gives you some new ideas!

  3. For infants, fostering growth of Fine Motor Skills is incredibly important!  For me, the best way to come up with lesson plans/ curriculum is to focus of a theme before you come up with specifics.

Fine motor skills growth can really be incorporated into different learning centers and activity opportunities....  For example, when I am coming up with curriculum, I use a form that I fill out to ensure that the different infant/ toddler/ preschooler's needs are being met...

The areas are: creative expression, language, imaginitive play, physical education, sensory, music amd movement.

The learning areas that these translate into that I use are: Blocks, dramatic play, language and communication, discovery, Art expression, Sand and water, music and movement, manipluatives

That is just a form where I put different ideas I may have and see where they fit in...For infants it's really important to look at their age and development

IDEAS: Use discovery items in most of your fine motor plans...Children at this age learn everything through sights, sounds, actions, sounds, tastes and environment.

Some ideas you can utilize (depending on a theme): Mirrors, large (foam or soft) blocks, anything with buttons/ switches, Props such as scoops/ spoons/ cups, books, cookie cutters, etc.

**I have a WORD version of my actual checklist and form (it's easier to follow in chart form)...Let me know if you would like me to attach it an e-mail and send it your way!

    Hope this helps!
