Infant tylenol drops?

My 6 week old had 3 shots yesterday and I read that giving her infant tylenol drops to help with the pain in the legs that she got the shots and also to reduce a low grade fever was good. My question is how much do I give her, and is it ok for her to take infant tylenol drops? On the back it says 2-3 years of age 1.6ml, but it doesnt have an amount to give to a 6 week old that's 9 lbs. I just gave her a little tiny bit cause I wanted to help her with the pain. It was barely enough to fill the dropper, it just filled the very tip of the dropper.

  1. fill it to the first line on the dropper provided i believe it is .4 ml or something.

and yes it works wonders after shots!!

  2. When I was prescribed the infant tylenol, my doctor said to only give her half a dropper. That too was after she had her shots

  3. This information is from a chart given to me by my pediatrician (printed by Tylenol):

    6 - 11 pounds 0.4ml

    12-17 pounds 0.8ml

    18-23 pounds 0.8 + 0.4ml

You also want to be sure you're using INFANT Tylenol and not CHILDRENS Tylenol too.

I'd be happy to scan the chart and e-mail it to you if you like.  It also has the dosing for Infant Motrin.

  4. You should call the doctor and ask. Usually for a baby that small .4 is all they need.

  5. you can give them to a 6 week old, but i would try to talk to her doctor'soffice first.

http://www.askdrsears.com/html/8/t089101... has info and a dosing chart based on weight.  you can confirm it with a pharmacist if you want.  for a 9 lb baby, it says to give 3/4 of the dropper, which would be .6 ml.

  6. If all it says is 2-3 years are you sure you have the infant tylenol? My bottles gives by weight.

  7. You can usually call your pharmacy or even ask the pharmacist at the grocery store and they will give you the proper dose for your baby. They go by the weight as well as the age.

    DOSAGE

(Click here to see dosing chart below)

7 mg per pound every 4 hours. The dosage we use is 7 milligrams per pound of bodyweight (for metric users, that's 15mg per kilo). For example: a 22-pound child would get 154 mg (22x7=154). This is about one-teaspoon of children's liquid. Don't worry about giving 160mg instead of 154mg - the difference is minimal. This dose can be given every four hours, or realistically, five times a day.

    Weight:   Milligram . . . . Infant

    . . . . . . . . Dosage . . . . . Drops

    . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .80mg/0.8ml

    5-8 lbs   40mg   ½ dropper

    (.4ml)

    9-10 lbs   60mg   ¾ dropper

    (.6ml)

    CANADIAN DOSAGE (different strength)

let me know if you need it, I will recalculate
