Infected peircing what should I do?

I recently got a piercing and everything was ok until this morning. I woke up and the area was red (not really red just a bit irritated) and there was a little bit of puss IN the piercing not enough that its coming out or anything. Now tonight it is a bit warm.

To me that seems infected and not just healing. Ive been cleaning it at least twice a day and i've been putting this piercing "lotion" on it as the place advised me to. What can I do now that there is a problem? Will it just go away?

  1. rub alchool on it

  2. Soak a cotton ball with rubbing alcohol (RA) and dab on the ear while you turn the earring around a little bit to let the RA drip inside the earring hole where the infection is.  It will sting! The ideal earring to have in is the small hoop "sleeper" rather than a stud. If you have stud in there, just loosen the tension on the wing back a bit. It might be on too tight to your ear and irritating the healing process further. While your ear is healing you need to be moving the earring around a little bit as you put the RA on. In the days when I had my ears pierced there no "lotion" available just RA. It works really well.Your infection will subside if you follow my suggested treatment. If it is stinging it is in the process of healing. If it is not stinging and still puffing up then you need intervention.  When it stops stinging and you can roll the earring around freely and there is no more swelling you can stop the RA treatment.

  3. Try a disinfectant and get to the doctor. You may need to remove the piercing and get a new one... It won't just go away, sorry to say.

I had this happen and used rubbing alcohol. I soaked a piece of thread in it as well and tried to get it in the piercing to no avail. In the end, the doctor removed the earring and cleaned it out, gave me some stuff and told me to wait some time after it healed before getting another piercing. Talk to your doctor and they will probably be able to give you some advice to prevent this from happening again.

The puss and the higher temperature are key signs that it is infected.

  4. It doesn't sound infected yet, I've had a lot of piercings and never heard of a lotion to put on.. Try warm salt water in a cup and holding it around the pierced area as a salt water soak, also make sure your cleaning it with salt water everyday.
