Infielder Alberto Gonzalez signs contract with Texas Rangers – MLB News
The Texas Rangers have reportedly reached an agreement with Alberto Gonzalez, an infielder. The Minor League contract will with the passage of time, retain the inclusion of an invitation to Spring Training.
With C. J. Wilson already gone to the Los Angeles Angles, the Rangers are exploring the possibilities to keep the team intact. But as the defence is relatively strong, it is the offense that the Rangers intend to embolden now by filling up the gaps.
Having already signed a contract with Joe Nathan, the closer for the Rangers, which amounts to $14.75 million with a $9 million club option as well, the Rangers will now have the infielder Alberto Gonzalez on their side.
This will indeed be a stabilising factor for the Texas Rangers given the fact that they were a team who made it into the World Series final this year against the St. Louis Cardinals, only to lose it by 4-3 at a time when they seemed all braced to grab the
title.
Even though that did not happen, the Rangers do not certainly want a repetition of losing in the final again, understandably piecing together everything and bringing every player that can help strengthen the team.
For that to happen, infielder Alberto Gonzalez’s arrival is a harbinger of something good to happen as news that the Rangers will construe as a good sign for the upcoming season.
Having played with San Diego Padres previously, the 28-year-old Gonzalez has a .215 average in the 102 games that he has appeared. All the same, his base percentage stands at .256 with a slugging percentage of .283 for the same club.
All the same, he scored 18 runs in the 247 at-bats with 32 RBIs in the same season, having managed one stolen base with a total of one homer.
Not to forget is the fact that he has had a few years spent with the New York Yankees. A total of five seasons that had with the Yankees, Arizona Diamondbacks and San Diego Padres made a career average or .242 with .317 slugging percentage and .281 OBP.
