Question:

Inflatable Kayak for river tours ?

I am thinking about buying a Sevylor Ranger inflatable for touring on rivers . I want to carry camping gear and paddle kayak style. I intend to tour on rivers up to grade 2/3, so need a good peice of kit !. I can't store a hard-shell and can't afford to spend more than about £200 on the kayak. Any suggestions or comments from people with one of these or similar would be great.

  1. I wouldn't like to trust an inflatable with expensive gear in it!

I'd go down grade 4 or 5 in one if its just me and i don't care what state the kayak comes back in.

I'm guessing that your from the UK from the '£' sign.  Try your local kayak shops, Some let you demo/borrow for a short period of time for around £20 a day.

Failing that, you could always see what you can pick up on ebay.  Use it for your trip, and sell it once you get back.

I've only ever paddled inflatables on flat water, but have seen them down holme peir pont, and that are fine.  (Well they stay in one piece, but you can't do that much in them).

Also HPP is quite smooth, so risks of punture are reduced.

Hope this has been of some help!
