That depends on several things.  I've got two different IK's that I use for whitewater rivers and I love them.  They are extremely portable and durable.  I also paddle a normal whitewater kayak, but that's a totally different beast.  If you're looking to paddle in flat/calm water, you'll be getting a better workout if you get an IK than if you bought a hard shell kayak.  They have much more drag hence the slower speeds.  In whitewater or rivers, they're a ton of fun.  Don't buy a pool toy though, get a decent one.
