I am 33 weeks pregnant and my husband is in Iraq and I live 1700 miles from the base hes supposed to be stationed at. I was told that after I have my baby I have to be at the pediatrician 48hrs later, the problem is I dont know how to sign up my son for the insurance or who to talk to because I live so far away from base? Does anyone know how this works?

  1. Have you called Tri Care? That's the first thing you should do.

  2. I used to have TriCare insurance and still wish I did.  So, I know that it can be confusing trying to figure out what you need to do to have your baby covered. I know you have to register your baby in DEERS.  You can go to the TriCare website below for some information.

I would call and talk to someone to figure out exactly what you need to do though.  I am not sure where you are located, but here is the link to contact TriCare. There is also a number to contact DEERS at this link.  Good luck!

  3. Contact Tricare to see what to do.

I could be wrong, but Im sure the the ped and ins co. understand that you wont be able to get baby enrolled that fast. I would imagine that if you have a family plan, that they will figure it out once you add him to the ins list of beneficiaries - afer all he'll be a dependent, and covered under the family plan. You may even be able to do it all online...

eta - during th stay at the hospital - the baby will have costs outside of your delivery - like the ped bill during yours and the baby's stay, and the ins will cover the baby's cost before you actually enroll your son, so Im sure theres nothing to worry about - just call tricare to see whats the process of adding a newborn.
