  1. I will send you the sites I had reviewed and spent many hours reading about them and they are something that depends on the horse his immune system and the type of scarcoid.  I have read that freezing and surgery can irritate them and cause them to come back larger there are many herbal remedies as well as home remedies.

  2. The world's leading expert on sarcoids is based at the University of Liverpool.  They have a very useful website (http://pcwww.liv.ac.uk/sarcoid/) - it's well worth a read.

I've had varied experiences of sarcoids.  I had a show pony with one inside his hind leg, very high under his tail.  I had the pony three years and the sarcoid never changed, got bigger or went away.  I had another pony who had a small sarcoid on his sheath; I put camrosa on it (http://www.camrosa.co.uk/) and it was gone in about 4 months.  And a horse I knew had over 100 sarcoids all over his body; he had to be retired as he couldn't be ridden, and went down to Liverpool to try some new treatments.  Unfortunately none of them worked.

The method and success of removal depends on the type of sarcoid, as well as the horse's general health.  Usually removal is more successful in young to middle aged horses (not the very young).  How experienced is your vet in treating sarcoids?  Some do come back worse no matter what you try and some do go away for ever; it's not all down to the vet but a highly knowledgeable vet will help!

  3. Yes the can come back, most people just leave them alone.

  4. From my experience, if you remove them, they are more likely to come back, and if they do come back, they will be bigger. So if they aren't impeding the horse in any way, it's best to leave them be. The hoof black sounds like a good idea...

  5. I have a gelding that had sarcoids in each ear. I put him on an herbal compound (powder) that is made by Silver Lining Herbs. It is an equine mixture called Blood Cleanse (#19). If you can't find it on their web site, you can call them and they'll help you. I had my horse on the powder for about 3 months and the sarcoids began to clear up. They were completely gone in 5 months! The stuff is great! My vet recommended it to me because several of his clients also had success with it.

I also had a mare that had a huge sarcoid on her face just above her eye but off to the side a bit. My vet gave her a series of injections (sorry I don't remember what he injected her with) and they cleared up after a couple months. That was about ten years ago and she is still sarcoid free.

  6. My horse has one on the inside of his leg and we had the vet look at it and he didn't want to remove it because of the location. The skin is really thin there. Anyway he said that he'd be fine to keep it as long as it doesn't get bigger. But the way he would of removed it was an injection I think. Also one of my trainers horses had one on her nose and so she put 'hoof-black' on it to cover it up for a show once and it started drying it up and so she cont. to put it on the sarcoid and it eventually went away. If your horse's sarcoid isn't on any black you could probably try using the clear hoof polish.

Hope this helps a little. Good luck!
